Ian Ponsford began his professional journey after graduating from the Birmingham Conservatoire of Music in the United Kingdom. From 1977-1993 Ponsford worked as a freelance trombonist, performing in classical orchestras, West End shows, recording studios, European tours and cruise ships.
After traveling to over 30 countries, Ponsford developed a passion for food and wine. He married an American actress and they settled down in New York City where Ponsford accepted the position of a bar manger and wine buyer for a chain of Italian restaurants.
Years later, Ponsford moved to the Naples area and took the position of Sommelier at the Ritz Carlton Golf Resort. After many accomplishments, he became Sommelier at the Club at Mediterra. Ponsford is now the Sommelier for Gordon’s on the River, where he has hand chosen a superb wine list for the restaurant.
